University of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas was established under the Morrill Land-Grant Colleges Act of 1862 to expand America's expertise in agriculture, mechanical and engineering skills. The founders of this university came up with the idea of Arkansas State University at a time when it was written into the constitution that a state university should be established.

It is Fayetteville's biggest attraction, with a big impact in the social, economic and educational aspects of the city.  The University of Arkansas has a long history in the town that it is based in, and vice versa. This university is ranked 135th in the nation and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The campus historic district includes 71 acres and 25 historic buildings, all with a park-like arboretum.

In autumn, thousands of parents travel to Fayetteville to help their children move into the various residence halls and apartments in the area. They arrive just in time for the Razorback football home games too. Fans return to Bud Walton Arena for basketball games. When it was completed, they became the fifth-largest on-campus arena in North America. Baum Stadium is one of the top college baseball facilities in the South, as named by Rivals in 2010. The Walton family donated the large sum used to fund it after realizing their team had no home stadium.
